SCRATCH-OFF CARDS

SCRATCH-OFF CARDS

Two considerations with scratch-off cards are (1) what they have printed on them and (2) how you are giving them away. Both factors must be compliant to use scratch-off cards compliantly.

What the cards have printed on them

Allowed:

  • "Tax-Free" and "Free Shipping." It is compliant to award "tax free" and "free shipping" cards. However, with "tax free," please remember the following information: GENERAL SALES TAX INFORMATION.
  • "Try again." There is nothing out of compliance in giving away a "try again" card.
  • "Get 1 free Accessory or Get X free Accessories." Cards that say "get X Accessory/Accessories free" are compliant.

Not Allowed:

  • No "Discount" or "buy x, get x." What is printed on the cards cannot be in violation of Policy, such as a discount (such as 20% off) or a buy x, get x deal (such as buy 1, get 1 free).
  • No" Cash Value Cards." It is not compliant to give away the equivalent of gift cards with money or cash value (see GIVEAWAYS AND HOSTESS REWARDS, INCLUDING MYSTERY HOSTESS REWARDS), so the scratch-off cards that award the recipient $5 or more are gift cards and are not allowed.
  • No "Non-Paparazzi items." Since it is not allowed for a Consultant to give away non-Paparazzi items, the cards can not have printed on them a giveaway of non-Paparazzi items regardless of how the person obtained the card. However, one exception is share giveaways for non-Paparazzi. (See: SHARE GIVEAWAY EXCEPTION .)

Any other printing on cards besides "tax-free," "free shipping," "try again," and "good for X free Accessory/Accessories" should be cleared with Compliance.

How the cards are given away

Allowed:

  • Give in person. You can hand a person a scratch-off card.
  • A prize in a game. A scratch-off card can be used as a prize as long as a purchase is not required to play the game.
  • Blessing bags. It is compliant to place scratch-off cards in blessing bags.

Not Allowed:

  • Not in Orders. It is never compliant to include the scratch-off cards with an order. Therefore, putting a scratch-off card into an order is not allowed. You should not put anything other than a thank you card and/or a business card in with an order.
  • No "purchase required for a chance to win." Consultants are not allowed to require a purchase for a customer to obtain a scratch-off card or to be eligible to play a game where a scratch-off card is awarded. That is because what they are winning is a scratch-off card and not what is printed on the card. Requiring a purchase for a chance to win is prohibited by Policy Section 5.11. Paparazzi Policy allows "tax-free" or "free shipping" as awards, but you wouldn't know what a card says until it is scratched off. If you want to give away "tax-free" and/or "free shipping" with a purchase, then say that all purchases are tax-free or free shipping that day—don't use a scratch-off card for that.
